about

meditations on chimes for a new world
at the time i did not know exactly what i was seeking in the playing of the bells except that in the beginning i had noticed, for the first time months, the absence of the sirens.
the moment lasted for about two minutes, when of course, thirty seconds into the recording, the sirens began again. but i know that i’m done with sirens— the trauma associated with the sound of sirens,
helicopters, how it feels to be surveilled
bells are used to clear the mind
my bells sound to meditate on the dissolving of the issues of the existence of sirens
clearing the mind of the clutter and the tangling
meditating on that this time is a necessary chasm
a reminder that this time is not a point of chaos, but that the time before it was chaos -- this is a time of untangling
bells readying us to see the other side
bells are used in meditation to signify the end and beginning of the meditation

recorded on july 4th outside my studio in downtown baltimore, blocks away from and in the middle of the police sirens and helicopters which have been circling and plaguing the city for the past few months, years, decades. days after an announcement of further annexation of the west bank. last night a statue of columbus was torn off a podium and thrown in the inner harbor. bells to signify that we are closer to and ready for the end of the violence of capitalism, colonialism, and institutional racism inflicted on all people from baltimore to gaza.
